Said you'd finish this week, but it turned out to need more steps than expected
If it's a small plan you're free to adjust yourself, re-estimate it first instead of translating the delay straight into failure. This page isn't letting you off any commitments you've made to others, and it isn't telling you to give up on the goal either — it's just a reminder that a timeline was always an estimate to begin with.
See where the change came from first
Did the scope grow, did you end up with less available time, or did the original estimate just never account for the prep work? Naming the reason clearly is what tells you whether to narrow the scope, add more time, or ask for help. Simply pushing the date back while keeping the same unrealistic plan can still leave you stuck again.
Set up a workable version for the next stretch
Pick the most important small piece first, agree on a reasonable new time; if it involves other people, tell them the impact early and ask if that works for them. Keep what's already done too — a new date doesn't mean starting over.
